Installation work is underway for the free exhibition of works by sculptor Henry Moore in Leeds Art Gallery It opens to the public on Friday 4 March. Over 100 items of work by the Castleford-born artist will be on display until June. Moore's work comes home to the city where he studied and to the art gallery where he laid the foundation stone for an extension in 1982. As part of the installation process, much of the ground floor of the gallery is now closed to the public as exhibits begin arriving. Items are coming from the Tate Britain, the Henry Moore Foundation and private collections from around the country. The Art Gallery of Ontario in Canada is also contributing.

Most famous 2011 has already seen an exhibition of Moore's work at the city's Henry Moore Institute that will continue until March. Henry Moore (1898 - 1986) was one of the world's most famous sculptors. The exhibition will see Moore's work in the city where he studied at Leeds School of Art (now Leeds College of Art). The art gallery is where Moore laid the first foundation stone when it was extended in 1982. The Moore exhibition has been organised by Tate Britain in collaboration with Leeds Art Gallery, and will cover the pre and post-World War II era. Shelter drawings Items on display will feature sculptures in bronze, stone and wood as well as drawings such as Moore's 'shelter drawings' from the blitz on London, and wartime drawings of coalmining in Yorkshire.

Meanwhile across West Yorkshire in 2011 the new Hepworth Gallery in Wakefield is set to open in May. It will display a large collection of work donated by the Hepworth family. The Yorkshire Sculpture Park at West Bretton has also been named the 'best sculpture park' in England by a national newspaper.
