Chapeltown's Reginald Centre gets its official opening
Reginald Centre, Chapeltown
The Reginald Centre - a brand new all-in-one service centre for Chapeltown

The state-of-the-art building housing a range of services for the Chapeltown community has been officially opened.

VIPs from the organisations that developed and funded the building joined local residents, councillors and schoolchildren to unveil the new facility.

A plaque at the new Reginald Centre was also unveiled to mark its place in the Chapeltown community.

The centre has been built on the site of the infamous Hayfield pub.

For many years, The Hayfield was seen as a haven for criminality and was the focus of regular police raids. Now the Reginald Centre has risen from its ashes to provide a useful one-stop shop for local residents to access all manner of services from the city council.

The building was funded by a partnership of NHS Leeds, Leeds City Council and Community Ventures and is one of two new joint service centres in the city - the other one is the Compton Centre in Harehills which opened in July 2010.

Services available at the Reginald Centre include help and advice as provided at the City Centre One Stop at 2 Great George Street. Staff will be happy to help with issues regarding all council benefits, council tax, East North East Homes Leeds housing enquiries, social care, environmental issues, information on Credit Union products and anything else regarding Leeds City Council.

Also Chapeltown Library will relocate from its current premises, there'll be access to advice on jobs and training at the Jobshop and the Environmental Action Team and East North East Area Management Team will also have their bases in the building.

NHS services include the Westfield Medical Practice providing GP services and a young people's drop in service as well as services for children and families including the health visiting team, school nursing and community midwives.

Other services include contraception and sexual health (CaSH), community diabetes service, primary care mental health team, sickle cell and thalassemia, tuberculosis (TB) liaison nursing service, speech and language therapy and language liaison.

The Reginald Centre can be found at 263 Chapeltown Road, Chapeltown. Further information on the council webpage.
