The Lord Mayor of Leeds joins hundreds of people across Leeds on Sunday 8 November to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in conflict. Lord Mayor Councillor Judith Elliott will lay a wreath at the War Memorial in Victoria Gardens to commemorate Remembrance Sunday. A procession will leave Civic Hall at 10:50 and head to Victoria Gardens where a number of wreaths will be laid. The wreaths will commemorate lives lost in wars since World War One. The ceremony will also remember sacrifice in World War Two, the Falklands, the two Gulf Wars, and conflicts in Bosnia, Rwanda and Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan. Members of ex-service organisations will form up outside Morrisons on Woodhouse Lane at 10:15 before marching down to the Cenotaph. At 11:00 there will be two minute silence after which a bugler will sound the Last Post. After the service the Lord Mayor and civic representatives will proceed to the steps of the Town Hall where a salute and march past will take place. The Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Judith Elliott says: "Remembrance Sunday is a time to reflect upon and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country, so it fills me with pride to be laying a wreath on behalf of the city in memory of those killed in battle. "Many different races and religions have been involved in conflict since World War One and this weekend is an opportunity for everyone to stand side by side and remember those who have died." Others in the parade include the Lord-Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, the High Sheriff of West Yorkshire and the political party leaders from Leeds City Council.
