Art walk gives a taster of Leeds

Leeds Art Walk gives a taster of the city exhibitions and a chance for a natter (c) Simon Cliff

The Leeds Art Walk is held on the first Wednesday of every month.

The idea of the unusual guided walk is to offer a whistle-stop tour of the city's changing exhibitions.

The walk will bring all of Leeds' art venues together, from big to small, established galleries to the newest contemporary space.

Around 25 people are guided around on each walk and there's plenty of chance for a natter with fellow art-lovers between the exhibits.

The next Leeds Art Walk is on Wednesday 4 November. Walkers have been invited to join the private view of Look up Look at the Design Innovation Centre after the Art Walk.

The first walk was held in February 2009. So far the biggest attendance at any one walk has been 40 people. Organiser Gill Howard says: "We hope it grows in popularity.

"It has been well received and is a good chance to see some of the smaller contemporary spaces around the city. We spend about 15 minutes in each gallery so it is a 'taster' to introduce the exhibitions. We always have a short talk from the exhibition's curator too.

"Some people come on just one walk, others come back every month."
