Gilly at Farmer Parrs on one of his Great Days Out. Gilly is on the right!
|
John 'Gilly' Gillmore is famous for his Great Days Out. From Fleetwood's Farmer Parrs to Towneley Hall in Burnley, Gilly has been just about everywhere in the county; he's the Judith Chalmers of Lancashire! So where is his all-time favourite Lancashire beauty spot? And the rest of our BBC Radio Lancashire luvvies? The county's best loved presenters reveal their best loved Lancashire hot spots...
John Gillmore:
"Choosing just one place has been a difficult decision. I'm privileged I get to travel all over the county with producer Carole Turner and get paid for it! I have a great affection for the north of the county so it has to be the promenade in Morecambe with its wonderful view across Morecambe Bay. On a summer's evening at sunset there is no better place to be. A walk along the prom from Hest Bank right up to the Midland Hotel is a superb walk with so many panoramic views. It's a beautiful setting."

Tony Livesey says when he's up Pendle Hill "all is well in my world"

"My favourite place in Lancashire is Pendle Hill. I've seen it on most days of my life (apart from when the rain's coming). From the top I can see the town I was born, the town I was brought up in AND the place I live now. When I'm up there all seems well in my world."
Sally Naden:
"Every Saturday or Sunday we head off to Lytham. We take a stroll along the prom and breathe in deeply. We watch the families playing on the green, do a quick lap of the shops then head off to our favourite café where I love a Caprese salad which is in the style of Capri don't you know! While I eat my salad and wash it down with a glass of wine, I watch the good people of Lancashire watching me, watching them!"
Brett Davison:
"Without a doubt my favourite spot in Lancashire is the view from the Ashton Memorial at Williamson Park in Lancaster across Morecambe Bay towards the hills of the Lake District.

I've always thought that there's something a bit special about the light quality in north Lancashire, and the building itself is so grand and glorious it's like being on a 1920's film set. You can spend a happy half hour up there watching the world go by, witnessing the birds flying out to sea. It's only then you realise just how much sky there is to see." Talat-Farooq Awan - Indus: "My favourite spot is more of a nine mile long road; the scenic A6177 known as Grane Road linking Blackburn to Haslingden which I drive through regularly to avoid the bustling motorway. It has everything you could wish for in a Lancashire countryside; the Lakes on one side surrounded by undulating green hills with horses, cows and sheep peering at you. Driving through the winding road, I love being at such a height and to see the surrounding towns from a distance. After a busy day it's great to unwind when driving home during sunset and come winter the frosty views are spectacular, it's like driving through the clouds!"
Sean McGinty:
"The sand dunes between Squires Gate and St Annes, well what's left of them that is because they used to be massive!
Hoghton Tower where Stephen Lowe got hitched

Great for taking the kids (although mine aren't interested any more though) and walking the dogs. Can't beat a cold, clear, sunny winter's day...beautiful."
Stephen Lowe:
"Well I have two. The first is Hoghton Tower where I got married. The place has a magical feel to it; the views are stunning and the gardens are top quality. We attend the farmers market there every month and various other events from the classical concerts to the motorcycle sprint up the mile long drive! When I enter the Great Hall (in which we were married) I get all goose bumpy. It is a fantastic part of Lancashire and I love it! My other favourite place is the woodland I planted in Accrington at the top of Willows Lane above the Miller fold council estate. Along with three work colleagues, I planted over 15,000 trees on the old farmland and turned it into the cracking woodland it is today. I like to take my boys for a walk there in the summer it is a lovely place with stunning views of Accrington."

Lytham Windmill where Phil Trow thought Windy Miller lived!
|
"My favourite place in Lancashire is the Windmills at Lytham. I used to go there on holiday and my parents told my brother and I that Windy Miller lived in them!"
John Clayton:
"I've had to put a lot of thought into this because I've got so many! I'll go for Anglezarke as I used to go there loads as a kid and now I live a few miles away, I hardly ever visit. Great for (superfit) cyclists and walkers. Very pretty whichever time of year you visit and there are some very nice pubs not too far away." Where is YOUR favourite place in Lancashire?
