Barbara Robb with one of Blackburn Cathedral's rare artefacts - one of the robes used for special occasions
There was a rare opportunity this week to have a look around Blackburn Cathedral and see the work they do for the community. We heard from several people who had a part to play on the day. Barbara Robb who organised the event, who you can see alongside one of the many rare artefacts - one of the robes used for special occasions. We heard from Sue Carr who helped to put the Cathedral Treasures exhibition together. Sue revealed that she herself had not seen many of the valuable treasures before, so it was truly a rare treat for visitors. We also heard from Fysal who is involved with the Asylum Seekers Community project at the Cathedral who told of the work he does with people in the community and the experience and sense of fulfilment he got from the work. The state of vicarages, manses and other forms of accommodation for our faith people. The union 'Unite' has received thousands of complaints from its members concerning the poor state of living conditions, often where health concerns were raised. It seems the credit crunch may be showing itself in the church. The Reverend Bev Ramsden of Blackpool Methodist Churches said the church needs to be prepared to move out of expensive buildings. Meanwhile, there have been calls from the ruling synod of the Church of England to cut the number of bishops to save money. Supporters of the plan say it would mean more jobs for junior clergy.
