If you go down to the canal at Botany Bay today, you're in for a big surprise. Moored there is a narrow boat, but not as we know it - it looks like a replica U-boat
The Leeds-Liverpool canal is now home to the £55,000 creation complete with captain's cabin, galley and periscope
Steve the skipper says he built the 'submarine' when he couldn't find a real one to buy for his 50th birthday
"I've always been into boats. I've had big motor yachts, I've had cruisers, I've had canal boats, I've had everything and they just get boring," he says
"It's somewhere to escape... we've got all the luxuries in the captain's cabin and they we can have a play up this end," he says from the control room
Steve steers the boat by the traditional way out on top or from inside via CCTV
And there's not much chance of getting lost: "We've got sonar, we've got radar, we've got GPS, we've got CB radio, we've got ship to shore radio."
What are these?
