Boot camp for Kent youngsters in trouble with police

New boot camp for Kent youngsters

A boot camp-style course for young people from Canterbury who have been in trouble with police has been set up.

During a week-long programme they will be taught outdoor survival skills, personal discipline and bush craft.

The scheme is run by Challenger Troop, a youth leadership organisation, together with Kent Police and community safety teams.

Based on the Army's training camp experience, the course is held on MoD training grounds near Folkestone.

The organisers claim the challenging and disciplined project helps to encourage respect among young people with behavioural and attendance issues.

Challenger Troop said all the young people taking part in the course wanted to improve their situation within the community and the programme was fully supported by their parents.
