Harsh winters through the decades

BBC South East's Meteorologist, Michael Fish, looks back at how we coped with the snow in the past, starting with the winter of 1947.

The winter of 1963 was so severe even the sea froze! The country saw snow fall from the end of December to the beginning of March, it is the coldest winter in living memory and is only beaten by that way back in 1683/84.
