Annette in her garden

Annette explains how she attracts insects to her small garden by her choice of planting

Annette Barsby has made her small garden in Dymchurch a haven for insects and other wildlife.

Annette's garden is only 24 feet by 28 feet, yet still manages to be the home for many different species of insects and butterflies, as well as her rather large cat.

She encourages insects with her choice of planting.

She completely redesigned the layout of her tiny garden when she first moved in.

By removing the large fence at the end of the plot, and adding in a false wrought iron gate, she has given the impression of having a much larger garden, without having to do the work that goes with it.

Annette is passionate about bees

Annette's previous garden was large enough to support several bee hives, and even at her new home she still provides food and sanctuary for several species of bees with her planting and homemade breeding tubes.

Annette is also a keen photographer and has taken photos of some of the visitors to her garden.

She recently won a Gold Award for "Wild about Garden" from the Shepway District Council and Kent Wildlife Trust .
