I am a Ramsgate lad, my first and only artistic training was at the Ramsgate School of Art before a career in the Army. During which time, after two chance meetings with Royal Academy artist Ken Howard I was inspired to start painting again. After leaving the army I joined Acol Art Group as a Watercolorist, where I have continued to be an active member of the group running classes and workshops. I also organise and contribute to the exhibitions held by the group twice a year. I get a lot of satisfaction helping others to develop and learn this wonderful pastime.
I am a self-taught painter inspired by the works of Turner, Rowland Hilder, Edward Seago and of course Ken Howard. I prefer to paint in oils outside whenever I can, capturing the beauty of the east Kent landscape and coastline.

I have exhibited throughout east Kent in exhibitions and galleries over the past 10 years and fortunately my work has been well received. My work has been exhibited at the Annual SeaArt Exhibitions, held in Thanet and organised by The Thanet Coast Project, for the past four years. My last exhibition was in December 2009 as a member of "Island Arts Group", a group of nine professional and amateur artists who exhibit once a year in Thanet, last year's show was held in the Belgian Café in Ramsgate. A bohemian venue for all arts, artists, poets and musicians alike. My first solo exhibition was at Ramsgate in 2009 and another is planned for summer 2010.
I will also be exhibiting at Broadstairs during the Folk Week in August and at the Ramsgate Arts Festival. I consider my work to be in the traditional English Impressionist style, each painting capturing a moment and allowing the viewer to feel the atmosphere as it was when painted. Hopefully my work is not seen as mimicry as I paint the world as I see it, uncomplicated, sincere and with pleasure.
