Margaret Thatcher's Lamberhurst bolt hole

As Meryl Streep prepares to play the role of Baroness Thatcher in her latest film, the National Trust has been showing BBC South East the former prime minister's Kent hideaway.

Margaret Thatcher used a flat in the grounds of Scotney Castle in Lamberhurst as her bolt hole from the hustle and bustle of Westminster life.

One of the flat's bathrooms is still decorated in the wallpaper put up by Margaret and Denis Thatcher, and the iron bath used by the iron lady remains in the apartment.

The property was chosen because the security services felt able to keep the prime minister and her husband safe during their time in Kent.

Denis was a also keen golfer on the nearby Lamberhurst course.
