South East has highest dog theft

Dog theft is on the increase and the South East has the highest rate of thefts in the UK, according to a lost dog website.

Some pets are stolen to order so they can be bred while others are held to ransom for thousands of pounds.

Kent Police deals with so many incidents of dog thefts that it has set up a strategy for tackling the problem.

For more on dog theft in the South East, watch Inside Out first broadcast on BBC One South East on Monday 7 February at 7.30pm and available on the BBC iPlayer for the following seven days.
