Jacqueline Gold, CEO of Ann Summers, spoke to BBC South East's Mark Norman about the pressures facing high street names, the role women play in her company, and how she helps to inspire the next generation of business women and entrepreneurs.
Jacqueline Gold, who was born in Biggin Hill, took over four seedy sex shops from her father in the 1980s and has since transformed the chain into a internationally known and respected high street brand. The company now has over 100 stores with an annual turnover of more than £100 million.
Over twenty new shops are planned, including a store in Kent's Bluewater shopping centre.
"The company is now taking advantage of better rentals on the high street and the new store at Bluewater is a strong indication that Ann Summers stores are now a permanent and, the company would say respectable, part of our high streets", Jacqueline said.
