BBC South West wants your suggestions for sportsmen and women who deserve recognition for their achievements in 2009. Please provide a brief summary of why your candidate should be recognised.

There are 14 categories in which we need your help including Sports Personality, Unsung Hero and Team of the Year. Send us your suggestions. Email: natalie.cornah@bbc.co.uk

The deadline for your suggestions for the BBC South West Sports Awards is 2300 on Sunday 1 November. Suggestions sent after this time cannot be processed.

The criteria to qualify for nomination for each of the awards are as follows:

Sports Personality of the Year:
Nominee must have achieved a high standard of performance at regional, national or international level between 1 November 2008 and 31 October 2009. They may also have used their personality to have contributed to the community.

Unsung Hero of the Year:
Nominee must be a volunteer and given his/her time and energy for others to play sport between 1 November 2008 and 31 October 2009. During this period, the nominee must have shown an extraordinary commitment to a club or sport and demonstrated a willingness to dedicate a significant amount of time to encourage sport in their area whilst asking for no financial reward. A role model for volunteers.

Lifetime Achievement Award:
Nominee must have contributed significantly to sport in the region and be a role model for others.

Young Sports Personality of the Year:
Nominee must be under 16 on 1 October 2009 and have achieved a high standard of performance at regional, national or international level between 1 November 2008 and 31 October 2009.

Disabled Sports Personality of the Year:
Nominee must have achieved a high standard of performance at regional, national or international level between 1 November 2008 and 31 October 2009. They may also have used their personality to have contributed to the community.

Coach of the Year:
Nominee must have demonstrated success in enhancing the motivation and performance of the team/individual they have coached at regional, national or international level, between 1 November 2008 and 31 October 2009.

Team of the Year:
Nominee team must have achieved a high standard of performance at regional, national or international level between 1 November 2008 and 31 October 2009

Football Award:
Nominee (team or individual) must have achieved a high standard of performance at regional, national or international level between 1 November 2008 and 31 October 2009.

Rugby Award:
Nominee (team or individual) must have achieved a high standard of performance at regional, national or international level between 1 November 2008 and 31 October 2009.

Cricket Award:
Nominee (team or individual) must have achieved a high standard of performance at regional, national or international level between 1 November 2008 and 31 October 2009.

Watersports Award:
Nominee (team or individual) must have achieved a high standard of performance at regional, national or international level between 1 November 2008 and 31 October 2009.

Athletics Award:
Nominee (team or individual) must have achieved a high standard of performance at regional, national or international level between 1 November 2008 and 31 October 2009.

Equestrian Award:
Nominees (team or individual) must have achieved a high standard of performance at regional, national or international level between 1 November 2008 and 31 October 2009.

Power of Sport Award:
Nominee must have made a significant achievement to sport between 1 November 2008 and 31 October 2009, which has not gone rewarded in the other above categories. The award recognises a grassroots sporting project or initiative that has made a major and lasting impact on a community.
