Business leaders will examine taxi services in Jersey

Business leaders in Jersey are to review Jersey's taxi and cab services.

Gordon Forrest, the new chairman of the Chamber of Commerce transport committee, says the aim is to make travelling easier for islanders

He said they will be looking at the differences between rank and private hire cabs as well as fares.

Mr Forrest said: "[fares] are perceived to be expensive in Jersey and we would like to understand if they are expensive, why they're expensive."

But he said before they can determine whether prices are expensive, they need to research the fares in Jersey.

Other areas the committee are looking at is alternative ways of commuting into St Helier.

The Little Train

One option could see commuters travelling to work from St Aubin to town on a service modelled on Jersey's little tourist train.

Gordon Forrest, runs Le Petit Train along the seafront from West Park and says the trains would have to be more weatherproof than they are at the moment.

He said: "If it were to happen I imagine it would be slightly different to the existing tourist trains we operate because it would have to be a year round service.

"The little trains, although they look very nice and are very effective in the summer months, may not be so comfortable when you have driving rain in the middle of winter."

Taxis are expensive...I can save you the 'research'. Noone seems to know the different types of 'taxi' or why the costs are so high. On leaving the airport the driver is so busy beeping the supplements button you can't get a word in. It's hilarious that they are such a rip off! It costs about £5 to leave the airport compound. The first time I travelled on one I thought I'd been kidnapped by a fake driver! I tell all my friends to hire a car, share, walk or get the bus. It's worse than Madrid!

PS shouldn't you already know how much the flaming things are....seeing as they are controlled.??? Getting a London black cab by comparison is cheap, that's all you need to know.

Geeeeez

Jeremy
