More room needed for left cats

There are more than 60 cats at the animal shelter

Jersey's Animals Shelter is looking after more than 60 cats and it's re-homing section will soon be full.

Last week 15 adult cats were brought in to find new homes, and the charity says it'll have to provide more room.

Major Steve Coleman, the JSPCA's Chief Executive, says most of those bringing pets in say the cost of feeding them and vets bills are too high.

"It is not something we wish to do because it puts a huge drain on our resources," said Major Coleman.

The cattery facility at the shelter is 98% full, but there is space elsewhere for more.

"We would sooner be channelling our resources to making the animals that are currently there fit an healthy rather than managing excess," Major Coleman said.
