Kap Bambino closed the festival in the Les Inrocks stage
Kap Bambino capped off Jersey Live 2009 with a performance whose vicious energy, no other artist could match. The French duo, fronted by peroxide blonde Caroline Martial, are famed for their high octane performances and failed to disappoint when they took to the stage last night. "Insane", BBC Introducing's Ryan Morrison said when asked to describe the act, "simply insane." The crowd reached out at Martial and she took up their challenge, unleashing her precocious talents; executing her provocative show with superb extravagance.
Throwing herself into her performance from the very first beat, she used every inch of the stage, even scaling the surrounding rigging, building the excitement in the tiny venue to breaking point. Despite the strong security presence to contain the crowd the continental starlet, went right up to her fans, taking glow sticks from the second row. She started her final song shrouded in a shawl, raising her arms as her static partner, Orion Bouvier, built the music to an unprecedented crescendo. Taking the shawl off and holding out to the front row, Martial's final offering was as vibrant as the audience had come to expect. The 45 minute set was as consistent as it was gloriously abstract. Whether delivered from on top of the vast amplifiers, or from the dust that covered the black stage, the stage presence of the petite prima donna remained undimmed and unquestionable. An intoxicating live spectacle,
were a highlight of what was arguably the stand out arena of the festival. Whether they make a return or not, Jersey Live 2009 was made just a little bit more explosive.
