Jersey Heritage launch tour of islands dolmens
La Hougue Bie
The tour will take in Jersey's Dolmen sites

Jersey Heritage Trust will be giving a guided tour of the island's ancient Dolmen sites.

A 'dolmen bus' will travel around the island exploring the prehistoric locations led by Jersey Heritage's Curator of Archaeology, Olga Finch.

She calls them the most impressive aspect of Jersey's archaeology.

The tour will take in sites around the island from La Hougue Bie to Mont Ube and its hoped it will remind islanders and visitors of the sites.

Doug Ford, head of community learning for Jersey Heritage said a Dolmen was a pre-historic monument with a religious connection.

"A Dolmen is a very complex pre-historic monument that many people regard as being a tomb because dead people were placed in them.

"But they are much more complex in that because lots of religious rituals are associated with them.

"I suppose a populist description is that they're like pre-Christian churches and like a modern church they come in different sizes."
