Jersey Black Butter chocolates have won three stars

Chocolates made from Jersey's special preserve, black butter, have won a national award.

The chocolates from La Mare estates won stars in the Great Taste awards which celebrate British food and drink.

Tim Crowley, the managing director of La Mare Estates, says it's an award judged by experts.

Mr Crowley said: "This is really about professionals in the industry creating at a high level and competing in the same market place."

He said that they already know how good their products are because they have a retail store and customers let them know.

But that it is good to be put side by side in category with other producers as it "shows you where you are in the ranking."

Mr Crowley says the company is going from strength to strength at the awards.

"We got our three stars for our black butter, we got two the first year, took comments on board, made it better then went back and got three."

This wasn't the only success for Jersey producers though, Emma Carlton who runs sweet inspirations in Jersey got a triple gold for her sticky toffee pudding.

And Sue Le Gresley of Sue's fudge won an award for her vanilla fudge.
