Big wheel plan for Hull
Belfast wheel
The wheel would be similar to this one in Belfast

Hull could be getting its own version of the London Eye.

Talks are underway to bring a big wheel, similar to the ones in Belfast, Manchester and York, to the city centre.

It is part of a bigger plan to regenerate the dockside area of Hull to increase the number of people using the area.

If planning approval is given the 60-metre-high wheel could be operating by the summer.

It would be located in the city centre, between Castle Street and Prince's Dock.

The man behind the scheme is Mike Killoran, the general manager of the Princes Quay Shopping Centre.

He said the idea is to attract more shoppers in to the Old Town district:

"We want to rejuvenate this area of the city. The only way we can to do it is to bring a big attraction to the centre of the city. We think the big wheel will do that. It will bring customers to our end of the city from far and wide to visit us and see this big wheel."
