Hull band Outspoken Silence
It's been a rollercoaster year for Hull band Outspoken Silence

The UK's eclectic and vibrant music scene has been producing seriously good musical talent over recent years. Although one genre seems to be always fighting for recognition: pop punk.

With bands such as Kids in Glass Houses and You Me At Six breaking through to the mainstream it is giving hope to future punk scenesters.

Outspoken Silence are a five piece from Hull trying to break into the mainstream with the release of their debut album this month, it seems we have a bright future for pop punk in the region.

The band draw influence from New Found Glory and Blink 182, they formed in 2005 as an amalgamation of artists from a number of different bands that unfortunately split in the area.

After numerous gigs in the city and releasing four EP's through the course of their existence, they've now taken the big leap to record the much anticipated debut album which is released on Wednesday 18th August.

It has been a rollercoaster year with them earning the money to record the album through a huge victory at a national battle of the bands competition, they faced a judging panel that included BBC Sound of 2009 nominee Frankmusik. With the prize including a spot at this year's Reading and V Festival, this definitely gave them a great boost.

Nick Cobley, stress vocalist (the screamer) for Outspoken Silence told Raw Talent that "the recording experience was awesome, and by the end of it all we were definitely not disappointed with the final product."

Extremely excited and brimming full of ambition he also said: "We've never been more confident than we are with our latest recording; it's the sound we've been looking for since we started out".

The process was recorded by Stu McKay at studio 6, and is being distributed and mastered at Warren Records by Stewart Baxter who has helped some incredible bands from Hull in the past.

Nick states that: "Pop punk has never been massive in Hull, but its starting to become much more popular we have noticed."

And the album release gig with support from Demoraliser at The Lamp, shows that there are certainly places for these types of artists to flourish.
