A Hull school has won a national music competition. Mountbatten Primary School won £10,000 worth of musical instruments and a chance to see their song performed at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The competition was organised by the Prince's Foundation for Children and the Arts. The charity aims to promote and inspire enjoyment of classical music within primary schools. Stephanie Slack, project manager at the foundation, said the school were worthy winners: "In terms of Mountbatten Primary School their piece was interesting compositionally. In terms of what the judges were looking for, in terms of the different instruments they use, the different ideas that they explored, and also they created a storyline for their piece as well." The piece is called Egyptian Tragedy and tells the tale of a young man called Saadiq whose death is predicted by a fortune teller at a fair. Pupils at the school were given lessons in composition by musicians from the Philharmonia Orchestra. As well as winning the instruments, 22 of the Year 5 pupils will travel to London to see their work performed by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. Issac, aged 10, said he is looking forward to his trip to the capital: "I'm really excited because it's like the first time we've ever entered a competition, and we've won. It's not everyday you hear your composition being played by someone famous." The concert takes place at the Royal Albert Hall on Thursday 30th September.
