Celebrate St Andrews weekend with a free visit to a Historic Scotland site

Homecoming Scotland 2009 draws to a close with events across the country celebrating St Andrews Day and the finale of Homecoming Year in Scotland.

Historic Scotland for free

The good people at Historic Scotland have waived their normal admission charges to Historic Scotland properties for the weekend.

Gain free entry to Historic Scotland sites and buildings including Arnol Blackhouse, Fort George and Urquhart Castle.

A special 'text for nearest' service has been set up by Historic Scotland. Text 'WEEKEND' to 84118, and you can find information on your closest free attraction and its opening times.

Ceòl Nam Fèis 2009 | St Andrew's Fèis Homecoming

27 November - Eden Court Theatre, Inverness

Enjoy a celebration of Gaelic culture with a host of former participants from the highly successful Feis movement 'coming home'. There will be young traditional music talent performing Gaelic songs; new and traditional music; dance and drama.

Art Fair

26 - 29 November - Strathpeffer Pavilion

This year's Art Fair will this year show over 400 original works by more than 130 Highland artists, including compositions from Cara McKinnon Crawford, Michael Forbes, James Hawkins, Allan Macdonald, Peter Munro and Donald Shearer. Free entry.

Christmas Craft and Food Fair

28 November - Nevis Centre, Fort William

The Rotary Club of Lochaber is holding its second Christmas Craft and Food Fair where you can stock up on hand-made and home-baked goods for the festive season, all in aid of good causes.

Inverness Museum Open Day

30 November - Inverness Museum and Art Gallery

In celebration of St Andrew's Day, Inverness Museum and Art Gallery is opening its doors for a free behind the scenes look at their collections. Take a tour of the museum stores, meet a Seaforth Highlander and learn about life on the home front during World War II. St Andrew's Day themed crafts, storytelling and music is also on offer at the museum.

Christmas Fair at Ledgowan Lodge Hotel

27 November - Ledgowan Lodge Hotel, Achnasheen

Stock up for Christmas in Wester Ross at Ledgowan Lodge. This popular event offers arts, crafts, gifts and food. Combine some charity fund-raising with festive shopping. A book signing event and face-painting are also happening on the day.
