"Lewis Carroll's brother, the Reverend Skeffington Dodgson, was vicar of Vowchurch.

"Although the first of the Alice books had been written before Rev. Dodgson came to the Golden Valley, his daughter, who became Mrs Robinson of Poston Lodge might have been one of the inspirations for the heroine."

The director, Tim Burton, has used digital technology to recreate the surreal world of the book.

The film stars:

  • Mia Wasikowsky as Alice.
  • Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter.
  • Helena Bonham Carter at the Red Queen.
  • Alan Rickman as The Caterpillar.
  • Matt Lucas as Tweedledum and Tweedledee.
