A festive talk called 'Christmas with the Elgars' is being given by Geoff Hodgkins on Saturday 14 November at the Elgar Birthplace Museum. The illustrated talk is a light-hearted look at Elgar's views on Christmas, and the music he wrote for the festive season, and it begins at 1430 GMT. The event will include a previously unheard piece of music composed by Elgar especially for Christmas. Further information and tickets are available on 01905 333224. Elgar speaker Geoff Hodgkins has been an Elgar Society member for nearly 40 years, and is the Chairman of the London branch of the Elgar Society. He edited the Society's Journal (1991-2002) and has written widely on the composer, including The Best of Me, a companion to The Dream of Gerontius; and Somewhere Further North, on Elgar's links with the Morecombe Musical Festival. Catherine Sloan, Director of the Museum, said: "Geoff Hodgkins is a great speaker on Elgar and we are very fortunate that he has offered to give this fascinating talk at the Museum. "It will be festive, fun and informative - a definite must for anyone wanting to get in the Christmas mood." Tickets are £6.00 and £5.00 for Elgar Society Members.
