The Archbishop of Canterbury has consecrated the next Bishop of Ludlow.

The Venerable Alistair Magowan, formerly the Archdeacon of Dorset, received his new title on Tuesday 29 September.

The Bishop of Hereford was one of two Bishops who presented him for consecration to Archbishop Rowan Williams.

Bishop Magowan will live in Halford, near Craven Arms, with his wife Louise, and his daughter, Susanna.

The consecration took place in a special service at St Paul's Cathedral in London, where the Archbishop of Canterbury was also assisted by the Bishop of Salisbury.

I like to spot the tiny spark in any encounter that can fire our imaginations and, when harnessed, bring about transformation.

General Synod

The new Bishop has already worked on the national stage for the Church of England.

He is a member of the General Synod, the Church's Parliament, and serves on the all important Business Committee.

He has chaired the Election Review Committee and is a member of the Steering Committee working on the legislation which will see the first women bishops in the Church of England.

Bishop Magowen said: "I enjoy change, and when I get to Ludlow I shall be looking for something different.

"I am really looking forward to getting out and about and meeting people.

"I like to spot the tiny spark in any encounter that can fire our imaginations and, when harnessed, bring about transformation."

The Diocese welcomed him at a special service in St Laurence's Church in Ludlow on Sunday 4 October.

Bishop Alistair will also be a member of the College of Canons in Hereford Cathedral.
