The new Phase3 facilities at The Point open this week

To celebrate the opening of its new facilities, The Point in Eastleigh hosts a free open day with of workshops, performances and activities suitable for the whole family.

Activities include hip-hop taster workshops for 7 - 16 year olds to learn some of the steps and routines as seen on R'n'B music videos.

For adults there is the opportunity to try out some salsa moves in a fun and friendly latin workshop - no partner is needed.

The River People will offer a puppetry workshop for young people aged 7+ and for aspiring musicians, there is a drumming workshop on offer.

There will also be a free screening of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (12A) in the afternoon plus exclusive backstage tours and performances by The Point Young People's Theatre, Kickstart and Fuzzy Vision amongst others.

Porridge
Porridge is set in the fictional HMP Slade

The brand-new stage adaptation of the hit TV sitcom, Porridge, has been written by original creators Dick Clement and Ian Le Frenais.

Originally shown on BBC1 between 1974 and 1977, Porrige followed jailbird Norman Stanley Fletcher - played by Ronnie Barker - and his fellow inmates and prison officers at HMP Slade.

The stage show stars Shaun Williamson, best known for his role as Barry Evans in EastEnders (1994-2003) and, in more recent years, for playing a comically unemployable version of himself in Ricky Gervais' Extras.

The role of Godber, originally played by the late Richard Beckinsale, is played by Daniel West.

Wintersports Festival

Calshot Activity Centre opens for free tasters and showcases of its climbing, dual slalom racing and Big Air ramps 'n rails action. There is a range of local retailers and trade stands as well as the chance to try the new craze of Street Surfing, a new two-wheeled skateboard.

Tribute to Mint

Mint Burston
Mint Burston brought many big-name acts to the Joiners

Mint Burston is the man who put Southampton's Joiners Arms on the UK indie rock map. Starting in the late 80s, he brought some of the biggest names in British music to the St Mary's venue - including Oasis, The Charlatans, Manic Street Preachers and Suede.

Mint died two years ago after a hard-fought battle with cancer and this is the second gig in his memory when Mint's old friends and local music fans pay tribute and raise money for MacMillan Cancer Support.

Bands taking part include The Flying Alexanders, The Fallen Leaves and The Orphans.
