A group of young Guernsey film makers has set their sights on an international award with their self-produced horror short.

Under the name of De La Mare Productions, the group made the film independently of their related studies.

Director Jack De La Mare said: "I came up with the idea randomly driving through the Guet."

Actress, Rosie Le Friec, said: "It grew out of my expectations... it really worked out well."

The seven-minute film called Isolated tells the story of a young couple trapped in a forest by a horde of flesh-eating zombies inspired by the recent rebirth of the genre thanks to films such as 28 Days Later and Shaun of the Dead.

Jack said: "I developed the idea with help from the producer [Andrew Gaudion] who also helped write it."

The cast and crew of Isolated spent a "a long night" making the movie

They shot the film over the course of one night at Le Guet in the Castel. Jack said: "It was a long night, especially for Rosie because she was in the last few shots... we were there from about 1530-2400."

Liam Inder, who played one of the zombies and provided the sound effects, said: "It was crazy having to dress up and get the contact [lenses] and everything was a messy job, but it was really fun to do."

Jack edited the film with Liam and it was screened for the first time in public at the Princess Royal Centre for the Performing Arts on 20 January 2011.

Actor Elliott Crossan said of the premiere: "It was terrifying and very embarrassing, but I loved every minute of it."

The film is available to watch via De La Mare Productions' YouTube channel and has been entered into the Green Bay Film Festival in Wisconsin.
