The popular BBC comedy, Last of the Summer Wine, is coming to the stage in Cheltenham for the very first time.

Starring former Hi-de-Hi actress Ruth Madoc, it promises the usual mishaps and misunderstandings from regular characters, Foggy, Compo and Clegg.

The stage adaptation focuses on a mystery man, wandering through the village and wearing very little, who threatens the peace of Holmfirth.

The TV sitcom was originally created by the BBC in 1973

Also starring Tony Adams and Steven Pinder, theatre bosses say the show is full of "eccentric humour and full-on slapstick" and aims to recapture the magic of the endearing classic TV sitcom.

As well as Hi-de-Hi, actress Ruth Madoc has also performed in the musical Annie, which played to packed houses at the Everyman Theatre in 2008.

Writer Roy Clarke has penned every episode of Last of the Summer Wine - which is the world's longest running sitcom - and is also the creator of BBC shows Open All Hours and Keeping Up Appearances.

Last of the Summer Wine is being performed at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham, from Monday, 16 November to Saturday, 21 November, 2009.

Tickets range from £10-£25 and are available by calling the theatre's box office (01242 572573) or visiting their website.
