Musical maestro Jools Holland is taking a break from casting the TV spotlight on bands and acts to soak up some of the attention with his own sounds. The host of BBC2's Later has packed up his piano for a national tour with his Rhythm And Blues Orchestra, which pulls into Cheltenham Racecourse on Saturday, 21 November, 2009. Stroud's Little Voice
The Cotswold Players present The Rise and Fall of Little Voice at the Cotswold Playhouse in Stroud. Jim Cartwright's acclaimed play tells the story of a young girl living in her squalid home grieving for her dead father. She rarely speaks but finds comfort in her bedroom listening to her father's classic record collection of famous singers. Over time she develops a unique talent to mimic the great voices of Bassey, Billy Holiday, and Piaf - it is a talent that could have the world at her feet. Tickets cost £11 and the production runs until Saturday, 21 November, 2009.
Christmas Market on the Prom
Cheltenham's popular Christmas market is returning to the Promenade this weekend. A wide range of festive crafts and gifts will be on sale in the impressive selection of newly designed wooden chalets. Now in its seventh year, the market offers seasonal food, jewellery, candles, knitwear, handmade children's toys and many other gift ideas. The market will be trading seven days a week from Friday, 20 November, to Sunday, 6 December, 2009. Times: 10am-6pm (Monday-Wednesday), 10am-8pm (Thursday-Saturday) and 11am-5pm (Sundays).

There's a night of acoustic music on offer with Whalebone's combination of "upfront spellbinding musicianship, infectious driving rhythms and exuberant presentation". The trio's music is a marriage of folk and classic guitar rock played on acoustic guitars and fiddle. This is Whalebone's first concert in the village and co-promoter Steve Downs said "it's a great venue in beautiful part of the world and we're all expecting to have a wonderful night". The legendary former Rolling Stone, Bill Wyman, is making a return to Gloucestershire with his all star Rhythm Kings. The group, also featuring world renowned musicians Albert Lee and Georgie Fame, will be at the Cheltenham Town Hall on Sunday, 22 November, 2009. "The whole idea behind the band was to play music that we love and I think you can hear and feel that on our records," said Bill. "Playing live, doing gigs, means everybody in the band does it for the same reasons as I do; to have a good time and send the crowd home with smiles on their faces". Book Fair
Fancy looking for a few Christmas presents in a busy hall full of tens of thousands of books? A book fair is taking place at the Pittville Pump Rooms in Cheltenham on Sunday, 22 November, 2009. The doors are open between 11am-4pm and entrance costs £1. Car parking is free on site.
