A series of podcasts has been produced to help Gloucestershire Catholics prepare for the arrival of Pope Benedict XVI.

One of the reasons for the Papal visit is the beatification of Cardinal Newman (1801-1890), the Victorian Catholic theologian who will be declared "Blessed".

Father Michael McAndrew, who has been on summer ministry in Cheltenham and Gloucester, has produced the audio series for the Clifton Diocese.

"Now is a time we are focusing very clearly on the forthcoming historic papal visit," said Father Michael.

"To help people prepare, we've produced three new podcast series about the great Englishman who'll soon be the talk of the nation.

"'In the Footsteps of Newman takes listeners to the places where Newman lived, preached, and where he'll be beatified by the Holy Father."

Father Michael is joined in the series by Gloucester-born Father Christopher Whitehead as they visit Birmingham aiming to give listeners an insight into Newman's world.

All the podcasts can be heard on the Clifton Diocese website and are supplemented with photographs of the places featured.
