This will be the first joint exhibition for Jennifer (left) and Galina (right)

A mother and daughter from Gloucestershire are holding their first joint art exhibition. Galina Gardiner, from Minchinhampton, grew up watching her mum paint and teaching art, so it was no surprise that the passion was passed on. Now the pair are exhibiting their work in Stroud and showing how their art has evolved and been influenced by each other. Jennifer Pearson held regular exhibitions in London in the 1970/80s but stopped in order to teach for a more regular income to help raise her family. Now it is Galina's turn to balance her painting with the raising of a young family of four. "I've always been encouraged to paint and draw," said Galina. "I think I really started to take an interest when I was a teenager when my mum was a teacher.

I've learnt a lot from Galina because she has a much more daring approach than I've ever had.

"We used to go out together quite regularly and paint landscapes and flowers and whatever interested us." It's a hobby that Jennifer is delighted to be able to share with her daughter: "It really does treble the fun of it and the interest in it. "I've learnt a lot from Galina because she has a much more daring approach than I've ever had so it has encouraged me to be daring in my old age." Galina also shares those sentiments: "I love it - it's super. When you think of a person, you think of them in certain times, and mum is always thought of in the light of the times we have shared, painting. "You tend to go off into another dimension so there's perhaps not much said but it's more the fact that we were both there together on that day, and what we produce at the end of it expresses that." Jennifer has worked in a wide variety of media, but most frequently uses watercolour, pencil, pastel, pen and wash. Galina uses oil, watercolour, pastel, chalk, charcoal and pen and wash. The joint exhibition can be seen at the
