Get online with the First Click campaign

First Click helps over 55s enjoy the benefits of being online

The BBC's First Click campaign is aimed at helping those who have never used the internet enjoy the benefits of being online.

The media literacy campaign is a partnership with the Post Office, Race Online 2012 and UK online centres.

A free helpline number will direct you to organisations who can help identify opportunities in your area for over 55s to learn how to use the internet.

There are also computing classes at public libraries across Scotland which you can take advantage of.

Stay connected

Figures from the Office for National Statistics show that 22% of adults in Scotland have never been online even though 64% of households have access to the internet.

Using computers to get online can help you stay connected with family and friends, find a job and allows you to find information on whatever your interests are.

The campaign was featured on TV, local radio and in events across the country. BBC Radio Scotland had news and advice from experts on Good Morning Scotland, MacAulay and Co and The Culture Cafe.

On Friday 22 October, thousands of people throughout the UK went on to the worldwide web for the first time as part of the BBC's First Click day.

Fred MacAulay, BBC presenter and the nation's digital champion, said: "It's never been easier to get online and there's more reason than ever to do so - whether it's shopping, chatting to your children or downloading your favourite comedy programme.

Sir Terry Wogan, BBC ambassador for media literacy, said: "From booking a holiday to researching your family tree or catching up on missed TV programmes, there's so much people can do by learning how to use the web effectively.

"I want to help reach out to those who have never used the internet so they too can benefit from these fantastic online tools."

Get online classes

There are classes in libraries and community centres to help first-timers take the first click.

You may know someone who would benefit from computer lessons to get online.
