Health week puts men in the spotlight
BBC Essex presenter Dave Monk
Presenter Dave Monk is backing Men's Health Week

BBC Essex and the county's five primary care trusts have joined forces to promote Men's Health Week.

Mid-morning presenter Dave Monk is on a mission to get men across the county to get their health checked.

"Men generally don't go near a surgery. They have no idea they could be carrying a time bomb waiting to go off," said Dave.

During the week Dave is prompting men to reduce their risk of getting heart disease, stroke, or diabetes.

Men will be able to get quick health checks at places which are convenient to them, like supermarkets and town centres including Tilbury market, Harwich High Street and Epping Library.

Height, weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, and family history will all be checked. It all takes under 20 minutes.

To find a location near you for a health check contact the BBC Essex Helpline on 01245 348 348.
