James Huckle from Harlow has received the Sports Personality of the Year trophy at the Essex Sports Awards 2010. The ceremony, organised by sportessex and supported by BBC Essex, was held at The Mill in Rayleigh. The shooter won two bronze and two silver medals at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi during October. Huckle told BBC Essex: "A privilege to be nominated for these awards and a privilege to win one of them and it is great to be part of such a big event."

Cycling's Alex Dowsett from Cock Clarks, near Chelmsford took the Olympic Hopeful award. "It is a surprise, it is a real honour," said Dowsett. The silver medal Alex won in Delhi at the Commonwealth Games has helped to push his ambitions to new levels. "Cycling is such a competitive sport, I sort of doubted my chances. But getting that silver medal has helped me to realise that it [2012 London Olympics] really is a possibility," he added.

carried off the School of the Year trophy. The athlete and volunteer awards are selected by a judging panel from nominations sent in by members of the public.
