Colchester Zoo's newest arrival - her mum Venus the pygmy hippo gave birth on the morning of Friday, 27 November to a healthy female baby!
White male rhino Zamba was born on Sunday, 16 October after a 16 month pregnancy. He is also the first white rhino to be born through the pioneering process of artificial insemination in the UK.
Pippa the female meerkat gave birth to her first two pups on 22, October, bringing the total number of meerkats at the zoo’s new 'Suricata Sands' enclosure up to six!
The mandrill troop grew with the birth of three babies in October. The youngsters have different mums but share the same dad in the troop's dominant male Dume.
A male giant anteater baby was born on the 22, July. He was born to mum, Furai, who arrived at Colchester Zoo from Zurich in February 2007, and father Gilberto, who arrived in June 2007.
On Sunday, 22 November, one of Colchester Zoo's female colobus monkeys housed in the 'Out of Africa' area gave birth to a healthy baby. The birth brings the number of colobus monkeys up to 11.
