Expert examines Victorian fairing

A Victorian fairground prize was one of the objects brought to the BBC Bus in Colchester on Wednesday, 24 February.

The china object dates back to late Victorian times and was one of hundreds of trinkets which would have been given away at fairs in the 1890s.

It was brought along by Pauline Bartrop, who was given the object by her grandmother.

"She had it on her dressing table for a number of years. I always admired it as a child," said Pauline.

"It means a lot to me because it always reminds me of her," she added.

The object has now been added to the A History of the World website, a joint BBC and British Museum project.
