Olympics 2012 plan for Weymouth Pavilion site

Plans to turn the area around Weymouth Pavilion into a public entertainment venue during the 2012 Olympic Games have been approved by councillors.

Weymouth and Portland Borough Council hopes to create a focal point for the crowds expected to watch the sailing events in Weymouth Bay.

It would focus on cultural and leisure events and could include museums, music and commercial activities.

The plans are dependent on sponsorship and would not be funded by the council.
