Dorset Singer songwriter Pete Christie says the name of his new album Frank is inspired by his late mother.

He says she died last year having suffered from dementia and cancer.

Pete said: "It was an absolutely horrible time but there were times when she would say some really funny things. Some of them unprintable.

"Once, I walked into the care home where she was and she said to me, 'Come and sit next to me, Frank', and that's why I named the album Frank."

Pete's mother was also a huge Frank Sinatra fan so he thought the title seemed appropriate.

Brass band

Featuring on the album is a track called Waiting in the Wings, which is a live favourite, but the song appears in a slightly 'bigger' form on the album.

He said: "Everybody keeps asking for it [when I perform live].

"On the album we managed to get the Christchurch-based British Legion brass band [to feature on the track].

"I had already finished the song and I was half-thinking 'big mistake!', to add them to the song, as it was another week's work - but it sounds really good I think."

Pete is a regular figure on the Dorset live circuit.

He lives in Langton Matravers on the Isle of Purbeck but when he is performing outside of Dorset he says he finds it "easier" to say he is from Bournemouth.

He said: "Not many people have heard of Langton Matravers and everyone has heard of Bournemouth."

Special gig

Pete is also looking forward to a special gig at Mr Kyps in Poole, with fellow Dorset singer/songwriters Alex Roberts and Lou Brown.

He said: "I was asked to do the gig and I thought it would be a good chance to launch the album, but at a gig you get a support act on for 25 minutes, then another, and then the headline act and then everyone goes home.

"But how about the three acts all being on stage at the same time? That was how we got the idea."

The gig with Alex and Lou will include solo spots as well as collaborations between the three musicians, as a duo and as a trio, live on stage.

Listen to a live track from Pete, Waiting in the Wings, as heard on BBC Radio Solent's Sally Taylor programme.

Part Three is on Thursday January 28 at Mr Kyps in Poole.
