Folk Relief

Seth Lakeman

Starting at 1400 on Friday 18 February 2011, BBC Radio Devon will be hosting a 24-hour fundraising marathon live on air and online.

Folk Relief brings together the people and musicians of the county as we aim to raise as much money as possible for BBC Radio Devon's Air Ambulance Appeal.

There will be live music and special guests, fun and features, and you can take part too.

BBC Radio Devon presenters David FitzGerald, Shep & Jo, Vic Morgan, Richard Digance, John Govier and Michael Chequer (amongst others) will be passing the fundraising baton and inviting you to donate money by calling 03030 400 400.

And musicians like Seth Lakeman, Ellie Williams, Steve Skaith, Marina Florance, Mae McKenna and Phil Beer will be among those performing for us too.

But Folk Relief is not just for lovers of folk music.

During the broadcast we will aim to include a wide spectrum of music and features and the folk involved will be YOU; the folk of Devon.

If you want to see some live folk music and help raise money for the BBC Radio Devon Air Ambulance Appeal here are some of the events taking place in aid of Folk Relief.

And this has arrived by email:

"The show is wonderful. I am in a Celtic folk band and we have been inspired to do whatever we can to help. Therefore: Saturday 19 February THREE STRAND MINSTRELSY will be busking in Plymouth city centre from 1030. All proceeds will go directly to Folk Relief. Please tell people to look out for us. We're a couple of nutty ginger blokes with fiddle, mandolin, guitar, bouzouki, penny whistle etc.

"We hope to raise plenty for this wonderful cause."

SUNDAY 20 FEBRUARY

2030-2200: At the Clipper on the Strand in Exmouth, you can see The Billycocks, Lara Conley and Los No Bos.
