Tony Beard

BBC Radio Devon presenter Tony Beard
BBC Radio Devon presenter Tony Beard loves to share tales of the countryside

One of the county's most colourful characters, Tony Beard spent many happy years as a farmer and is a keen preserver of Devon life and culture.

He loves Dartmoor and appears on Kirstin Neilson-Hunter's Saturday lunchtime show each week when he introduces her to some of the countryside traditions and the characters who live and work on the moors in his 'Dartmoor Diary'.

He's an accomplished entertainer and is known 'round these yer parts' as The Wag from Widecombe.

A comedian and singer, Tony has also made several albums of his own, many of which seem to find their way into his "must-play-this-sometime" box which he brings along with him on a Sunday to the Radio Devon studios.

Sunday requests

Tony's also joined by Kirstin to present the Sunday Request Show, when the choice of music is left up to you.

It could be Frank or Robbie, Eartha or Kylie, and if it's a song that has a special place in your heart, Tony and Kirstin want to know about it.

Do you know someone who is celebrating a special occasion?

Maybe it's a birthday or a wedding anniversary, an exam result or retirement.

Perhaps someone who deserves a dedication on the radio just for being a great person.

And if you're planning a coffee morning for charity or a jumble sale in your parish hall, let them know so they can tell the rest of the county.
