BBC Radio Devon's Kev Hutchings loves the county's diverse music scene
A behind the scenes role at BBC Radio Devon proved the perfect springboard for Kev Hutchings. Now a presenter of BBC Radio Devon Introducing and a member of The Afternoon Show team, he's delighted to be doing what he loves most - talking about music and meeting interesting people.
Kev's first taste of broadcasting was at the age of 18 when studying at college and being asked to present a lunchtime show on the student radio station. "It was brilliant," he said. "My biggest passion in life is music and to be able to play and talk about the songs I love was so addictive and such a joy."
After handing CV after CV to the people he now calls his bosses, he was finally employed by BBC Radio Devon in January 2004. "I began working a few hours a week answering the phones on the Late Show," he said. Working with John Govier as the "better looking half" of the Late Show team for two years and subsequently presenting the show himself for several months in 2008 was the next step for Kev. Loving it "Working on the late show was a great experience and meeting all the local musicians made me realise just how much talent is out there." And so, as presenter of BBC Radio Devon Introducing, Kev is doing what he loves most. "It's great to introduce the listener to new local artists and to show them how varied the Devon Music scene is," he enthused. "Going through all the CDs that get sent in is really exciting, I never know what I'm going to hear next. "Who knows? Devon could be home to the next big act. "What I try to do with every show is to illustrate just how eclectic the local music scene is. "And working with all the local acts is very inspiring, it's great to see musicians from Devon making an exciting fresh sound." Send and e-mail to Kev:
