The Royal Naval frigate HMS Chatham returned to its home port in Plymouth on 26 January 2011 for the final time after 20 years service to the Royal Navy across the globe. All photographs courtesy of the MoD.

HMS Chatham is one of the Royal Navy's four Type 22 frigates, all Devonport-based, which are being decommissioned under the government's Strategic Defence Review.

HMS Chatham was laid down at Swan Hunters Shipbuilders Ltd in 1986, launched in 1988 and is the last of the four Type 22, Batch 3 frigates. It is 150m long and has a crew of 250.

The ship was flying a special pennant as it sailed into its home port of HM Naval Base Devonport to mark its final entry under the White Ensign before decommissioning.

The ship's return marks the start of a number of key decommissioning activities including an official decommissioning ceremony on 8 February 2011.
