Some properties were left under several feet of water. It was not just Ottery St Mary which was affected - many other towns and villages were flooded, too.
Roads in east Devon became flooded very quickly - these cars were caught up in flood water near Exeter.
A foot of hail fell in just a couple of hours - leaving householders with a clear-up operation.
Some homeowners have hit out at insurers for not paying out in full.
Much of east Devon was left under water - including these fields at Stoke Canon.
The storm was so sudden it caught people unaware - this motorist had to be rescued.
Ottery St Mary was the worst affected area by the 2008 storm - the hail led to large drifts.
