Ice-skating otters come out to play

The otters on the ice
The otters at Escot Park loved playing on the ice

The festive freeze went down particularly well with one family in Devon...the playful otters which reside at Escot Park near Ottery St Mary.

The waterways at the east Devon venue froze over, and the family of six otters got their skates on (although not literally) to play on the ice.

"They are very popular and you can see why," said Lisa Benton of Escot Park.

"They are Asian short-clawed otters and their claws are very dextrous which helps them."

Otter opening a present
The otters even got to open Christmas presents

Mum Toffee has been at Escot for 15 years, while dad Peanut is just three-years-old.

"They've only recently started to breed and they've not got three girls and a boy," said Lisa.

And, just like most other families the otters had fun this Christmas, playing in the snow and ice - and even opening presents!

"They had a lovely Christmas," said Lisa.
