Seaton Tramway celebrates 40th birthday

Seaton Tramway in east Devon is on track for a busy summer, as it marks its 40th year of operation.

It has a remarkable history, having started life in Eastbourne before its owner, Claude Lane, moved it to Devon.

The tramway is as busy as ever, as it trundles alongside the River Axe on a three mile line, taking in Seaton, Colyford and Colyton.

The tram - which runs on a former British Rail track - attracts some 90,000 visitors each year.

Its 40th birthday takes place in August 2010.

BBC Spotlight's Greg Wade went for a ride on the tramway, and you can watch his film at the top of this page.
