Images and music from Sunlight Symphony: Sunrise - a unique piece of music by Plymouth composer Alexis Kirke using the sun rising on some windows.
Alexis created the symphony at the University of Plymouth's Roland Levinsky Building. As the sun came up on 26 February 2010, music emerged from speakers in the foyer of the building. The symphony was created by the sunlight reaching sensors on windows. The sensors, in turn, 'communicated' with a computer programme on Alexis' laptop in the foyer. The result was Sunlight Symphony: Sunrise, which started with soft sounds and developed into a crescendo over 30 minutes between 6.45am and 7.15am. This slideshow features the start of the symphony - read more and listen to other sections using the link below.
