The Guide: Derbyshire Christmas lights

The count down to Christmas is under way in Derbyshire.

In this special edition of The Guide are details of where and when the Christmas lights are to be switched on.

All the events listed are free to attend.

Ashbourne

Ashbourne's lights will be on from 27th November - they'll be switched on at 18.30 by Nigel Clough. The celebrations will be in the Market Place area.

Bakewell

Bakewell's big day is on 28th November. The lights are switched on at 18.45 in the town centre.

Bolsover

There will be no official switch-on of the Christmas lights, but they will be lit from 1 December onwards.

Bolsover's Christmas Festival takes place on Saturday 5 December with a market and street entertainment during the day and the lantern parade from the castle to the town centre at 16.45.

Buxton

Arthur Bostrom will turn on Buxton's Christmas lights

It'll be an evening of celebration in Buxton on Friday, 20 November from 17.00 - 19.00.

There will be carols, choirs, fair and a lantern parade - and Arthur Bostrom ('Allo 'Allo) will switch the lights on at 18.30 in Pavilion Gardens.

Castleton

Castleton's lights will be on from 14 November. "Dick Whittington" will flick the switch at 16.00 and there'll be rides, bands, carols, roast chestnuts and Santa's Grotto.

Chapel en le Frith

Chapel en le Frith will have its Christmas lights on from 30 November.

Chesterfield

Chesterfield has a day of events, Sunday, 15 November, to mark the start of the festive period, including a Christmas Market and entertainment in New Square from 12 noon. The lights will be switched on at 17.00.

Derby

Derby's festive celebrations happen on 14 November. X-Factor finalist Laura White will switch on the lights at Westfield Derby at 14.30 and later, in the Market Place, Eoghan Quigg will light up the city centre. The Christmas parade will leave The Spot at 16.15, and head to the Market Place, arriving at 16.45. Derby's Christmas lights will be switched on at 17.45.

Ilkeston

Friday, 20 November is the date for the Ilkeston switch-on. There's a market and fair in the Market Place from 18.00 - the lights will be switched on by the mayor at 19.30.

Long Eaton

The big switch-on in Long Eaton is on Friday, 27 November. There's entertainment in the Market Place from 18.00 - the lights will be switched on by the mayor at 19.30.

Matlock

Matlock's Victorian Market weekend is 4-6 December. The lights will be switched on at 16.45 on Saturday 5 December.

New Mills will have its Christmas lights on from 30 November.

Ripley

Ripley's switch-on will be on Friday, 4 December at 6.30 in the Market Place.

Staveley

Staveley will have its Christmas lights on from 27 November.

Swadlincote

Swadlincote's Christmas lights switch-on happens in The Delph in the town centre on Friday 27 November at 19.00. There will also be fairground stalls and attractions.
