A group of friends from Derby are preparing to ride a six-person hex-cycle from John O'Groats to Land's End to raise money for a cancer charity.

Paul Barton, Michael Turton, John Griffin, Jamie Griffin, Gary Testro and Martyn Jackson will embark on the epic adventure in early October.

The men reckon they can complete the 874-mile journey in 16 days.

Each man has decided to get involved with fundraising following personal experience of the killer disease.

The six-seater bike was custom-built for the group in California and they've been busy practising on it over the past few weeks.

Jamie Griffin said: "Team work is key on this hex-cycle.

"Everybody knows it's going to be a hard slog but we're all committed to achieving what would be an excellent effort for charity."

The group, who call themselves Saddle Row, will camp along the way and have allowed plenty of extra time for unexpected repairs.

The adventure begins on October 2 and all money raised will be split between six different cancer charities.
